The Davidson County (N.C.) Sheriff’s Office was recently honored by the Center for Digital Government for creating a secure forensic research network using Cellebrite’s Universal Forensic Extraction Device (UFED). The network gives officers access to the dark web and has now handled more than 240 electronic devices and acquired data from 86 percent of those devices. Cybersecurity has been a top priority for since a ransomware attack in February 2018, according to Joel Hartley, chief information officer for Davidson County.
