Digital evidence from a locked mobile device helps solve high-profile assault case

On December 2014, in Italy, Alexander Boettcher, a 30-year-old Italian millionaire property broker, and his girlfriend Martina Levato, a 23-year-old economics graduate, conspired and carried out an assault on her ex-boyfriend. This was one of many planned attacks arranged by Boettcher as he wanted Levato to ‘purify herself’ of her previous relationships.

2 main challenges:

  • Determine the motivation and mental state of both individuals and find out the extent of their assault history.
  • Find more evidence of additional assaults carried out in the past.
