A South African businessman allegedly contacted a friend to arrange the murder of his estranged wife. The friend in turn contracted Ambrose Monye, a former Olympic athlete, to secure two hitmen to carry out the crime. Investigators used call detail records, photos and cell tower logs to arrest four suspects in what was eventually proven to be a homicide.
2 main challenges:
- Pinpoint multiple suspect locations leading up to, and at the time of the homicide to find evidence that proves a conspiracy to commit murder
- Extract data from the victim’s phone, and two phones belonging to the suspect, to identify his activity and whereabouts at the time of the murder
