Mobile Device Forensics: How to troubleshoot the device connection with Cellebrite UFED

In this week’s Tip Tuesday, we walk you through troubleshooting steps to help you resolve connectivity issues with Cellebrite UFED. We’ll cover enabling USB debugging, utilizing console mode for device insights, and other helpful tips.
If your device is not connecting, try the methods below:
Method 1: Toggle USB Debugging in Developer Mode
- Go to your device settings and enable Developer Mode.
- Within Developer Options, locate the USB Debugging setting.
- Turn off USB Debugging and then turn it back on again.
- This simple action can often resolve connectivity issues and improve device connection to Cellebrite UFED.
Method 2: Revoke USB Debugging Authorizations
- In Developer Options, find the option to revoke USB Debugging authorizations.
- Select this option to revoke any previously granted authorizations.
You can use Console Mode for Device Insights. Console Mode provides valuable information about the device, such as the Android version, chipset details, encryption status, and more.
These insights help you determine the feasibility of gaining access or performing specific extractions. For example, if you’re trying to get a physical extraction, and it shows that it is a file-based encrypted device, that method of extraction is not possible.
