Course Description
Cellebrite Chip‑Off Forensics (CCOF) is an expert‑level, five‑day course focused on advanced chip‑off extraction techniques used when standard mobile forensic methods are no longer possible.
This hands‑on course teaches examiners how to safely remove and process memory chips from damaged or non‑functional devices while maintaining forensic integrity. Students gain practical experience with chip‑off workflows, flash memory handling, and physical data extraction to recover critical evidence from severely compromised devices.
Course Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify when chip‑off extraction is appropriate and necessary for mobile device investigations
- Explain flash memory types and how they impact chip‑off extraction methods and results
- Research devices and memory chip types to determine chip‑off feasibility
- Safely remove memory chips using milling, infrared heat, and polishing techniques
- Clean and prepare memory chips for data extraction
- Perform physical extractions using memory chip adapters and supported tools
- Analyze extracted data from successful chip‑off extractions
- Apply legal and evidentiary considerations related to chip‑off methods
What You’ll Work On
Hands‑On Chip‑Off Focus Includes:
- Chip‑off milling, IR heat application, and polishing techniques
- Flash memory handling (NAND, NOR, eMMC/eMCP, UFS)
- Memory chip removal and preparation workflows
- Use of adapters and tools for physical extraction
- Data analysis from chip‑off extractions
- Maintaining forensic integrity during physical recovery
Optional Training Kits
Optional kits are available for students who want to continue practicing chip‑off techniques outside of class.
Additional fees apply.
- CCOF Kit Includes:
- Chip‑off extraction tools (milling, IR heat, polishing)
- Flash memory adapters (NAND/NOR, eMMC/eMCP, UFS)
- Protective workspace setup
(Training kits are not required to attend or complete the course.)
When This Course Matters:When severely damaged, non‑functional, or physically compromised mobile devices prevent standard forensic extraction workflows, chip‑off techniques may be the only path to evidence recovery.
Recommended Courses
Cellebrite Certified Operator (CCO) for Inseyets + Cellebrite Certified Physical Analyst (CCPA) for Inseyets
Cellebrite Advanced Smartphone Analysis (CASA)
Cellebrite Evidence Repair Technician – Forensic (CERT‑F)

Expert‑level training focused on diagnosing and repairing damaged digital devices to enable successful forensic data extraction when standard workflows fail.
Recommended for practitioners supporting complex investigations involving physically compromised or non‑functional devices and expanded recovery workflows alongside chip‑off techniques.
